An original looking
and interestingly styled Egyptian level. Rather
than going for traditional Egyptian / temple
designs, this focuses more on a strong, detailed
theme rather than exceptional architecture and
designs. The theme is a mixture of Egyptian
sandstone style with luxurious trimmings, like
red buttresses that hold torches, and gold buttresses
or trim. This is enhanced by an excellent use
of angles to provide complexity in otherwise
simple rooms and corridors. The map follows
this style throughout and what it lacks in variety
it makes up for in consistent quality.
Gameplay is equally consistent: a lot of monsters
in fairly similar combat situations, plenty
of ammo, and a bit of health. There's also some
good exploration with a fairly non-linear design.
Each area has enough combat in, often against
medium monsters like Ogres and Deathknights,
as well as the custom Snakemen, and more monsters
teleport in when you need to backtrack. Despite
the relentless combat, the map's design works
more to your advantage than the monsters, so
it's easy to lure them after you and kill them
on your terms. The ending is a quite simple,
but the continuous combat until then provides
a fair challenge.
