"A rich Egyptian
temple mixed with grimy bricks and red buttresses
against an orange sunset. This ancient temple
is guarded with many of Quake's strongest monsters
and will be a great challenge."
The Egyptian Myth is one tough mother. Before
starting up this map you should prepare yourself
for one heck of a fight. Definately a challenge
that will make Quake veterans mouth water and
make newbies hide in the corner and cry for
mommy.
The design of this map is almost perfect in
my opinion. It has multiple entrances into larger
rooms to give you a nice feeling of exploration.
In fact, if you want to see a slightly better
design in the egyptian theme be sure to check
out The Looming Madness, also from [Kona]. Alk07
flows very steadily, removing any confusement
with easily read direction. My only complaint
with the design is that it is mostly linear,
but that is a very small issue.
Gameplay is intense. With 119 enemies in this
map, including [Kona]'s lucky Snakeman and a
modified Hell Knight at the end, you are sure
to have your hands full. Almost to full at times.
There is no room for storming into battles in
Egyptian Myth. You will want to use some clever
planning before hand if you want to survive
without cheating.
Here's a couple of tips :
When clearing out a room be sure to keep your
eyes open, usually new ones appear.
Careful when you grab those keys, traps are
[Kona]'s speciality.
Be sure to back track for any missed ammo or
health
DO NOT RUSH A ROOM
Overall, the map looks great. Textures from
Rogue and Hexen2 added to [Kona]'s great architecture
really make for a great match. The action is
brutal and will provide plenty of entertainment.
Just have that save button ready!
