The talented Shaun
[Kona] Ross is best known for his Quake and
Quake 2 levels so Butchered Creatures was an
evident pick for a review at this site. Basically
to put it simply, Butchered Creatures will not
dishearten. A rather small level with an .arena
file, I deleted a few extra bots and focused
more on one-on-one type deathmatch and the outcome
was enjoyable. This is a high-tested map, everything
seems to be in proper order and the smooth-flowing
gameplay got more intense as the deathmatch
progressed.
Butchered Creatures has exceptional styling,
many browns highlighted by white lights and
panels result in a fresh arena and the sunset
skybox is a spanking new new look to an already
great map. Butchered Creatures passes all the
standard bench-tests with no problems and I
only noticed one bot (Sarge) get stuck in the
wall at one point (an undemanding frag, hehe).
A series of tarnished, decaying platforms and
ledges makes up this overall enjoyable map.
There are also hidden paths to explore and rockets
to jump in this space map.
This level tends to play away from the edges
and more upstairs with focus on the rocket launcher
and the plasma gun. Solid construction results
in very few falls and players may bump their
heads while using the jump pads but these minor
issues take nil from the overall experience.
Baal-Peor scores this map @ 9 of 10 because
it is a great level, suggested for all! (3.39
