Well it didn't start off good.
I open the text file and read -
Description: load of shit
Previous levels: None released
And I load the game up and find Nathan included
his configuration settings which differ from
mine (so I had to delete it and restart). However,
it ended up quite good in the end.
The level design wasn't spectacular, but there
were sections and rooms which were quite appealing.
Texturing was good. The levels took place in
your usual setting similar to the original game.
Unfortunately gameplay was
not as good as the design. It was your typical
Grunt battle, and the only other enemy to make
an appearance were those annoying Assassins
which were too hard. There are many times where
an enemy could have been placed, but you end
up strolling through just looking at the scenery.
There are, however, a number of small puzzles
to solve such as finding the end of a wire and
breaking it to shut down the security system
of some door. Puzzle fans may enjoy parts of
this level. By level I mean all 16 bsp's, going
as small as 170k! There are alot of transitions
- it seems every few rooms and it's on to the
next map.
There were some good, unique
parts to it such as flying a jet or taking a
train ride. The train ride had huge potention,
but you couldn't even see out the windows properly
without disrupting it's path.
However it did keep me entertained
for quite a while and is a very good debut release.
I look forward to Nathan's future work, as I'm
sure it will be good.
