Dennis Katsonis (Borax Man)
has made many levels in the past. Quake2'ites
may be familiar with his Quake2 levels The Ulysses
Project and Den's Palace. Orbital Fortitude
is his latest Q2 release, and it is certainly
a good piece of work.
It takes place among warehouses and labs, which
have been built very well. Unfortunetly, research
labs never really look that great architecturally,
as they need to look realistic too. The layout
was good, with much criss-crossing and backtracking.
Your mission is to track down
a Data CD, which is usually a secondary objective
in a level but here you are to travel all over
the level trying to get to it. In the end you
must defeat a Tank Commander to get it. The
gameplay was good, fun and entertaining with
many enemies. You start with 84, but it can
grow alot depending how quickly you shut of
the monster-maker machine. It is recommended
that you take care of your ammunition as there
isn't much (then put more in!) but I didn't
find it much of a problem. I ended the level
with about 30 rockets up my sleeve.
Overall this is one of the
better levels released in quite a while, and
certainly one of the more professional. It is
good to see mappers still working with Quake2,
rather than Quake3.
