Egyptian Myth is vaguely Egyptian
styled. From the title I expected something
more strongly Egypt-oriented, but this map defied
my expectations in more ways than one.
When I make maps, I have a habit of placing
a hell of a lot of monsters, making for fast,
frantic gameplay. Egyptian Myth does not have
too many monsters (around 100), but manages
to keep it frantic the whole time. The snakeman
makes an appearance again, and tougher Quake
monsters such as Hell Knights and Shamblers
will never be far away. The map is very interconnective,
meaning it would be good for DM as well. This
also means you'll spend some time battling monsters
from multiple directions - above, behind, to
the side. The map is a challenge, but that's
the way I like them.
Not only does Egyptian Myth
play well, but although the Egyptian theme isn't
as strong as you'd think, it looks very good
also. Textures and angles have been used in
inventive ways, and the map carries its style
every inch of the way through. Vertical red
trim, gravel on the grounds, angled green metal,
and sandy stone blocks are among the map's visual
features.
Once you've made your way through
the entire map, you'll have to take on a boss
Hell Knight, for me it was rather odd because
I ran into him while running away from some
other guys. I think he should have had a new
skin or sounds so you could tell he was going
to be as tough as he was.
Once that guy's been taken down, you'll finish
the map feeling like you've accomplished something.
Egyptian Myth is a good map and a satisfying
Q1SP experience.

Personally I think Egyptian
Myth and A3 are the best single maps released
this year (not counting packs such as COE and
PG), but then it's my level so of course I'd
think that. Good solid gameplay that is tough
all the way without getting frustrating, and
a solid, unique theme. Cons - the end battle
is far too easy and the theme is a little too
repetitive. Otherwise a very satisfying Q1SP
from me.
